Coloring contest and bath stuffz [17 May 2009|10:40pm]
    [ mood | chipper ]

My sunburn is doing better.... blisters have gone down. Still kind of hurts though.

My entry for Furcadia's Spring Festival coloring contest won first place.

"{E} Rei-Jin: What's that? We missed one? Yes there's still one more prize left to give! While there were many, many, excellent entries in both the digital and traditional entries one entry stood above the rest. This has happened in the past where one entry blows our judges away and a head and fuzzy ears above the rest.
{E} Rei-Jin: Up till now that's usually been a digital entry. Well this contest I'm pleased to announce that out Grand Prize Winner is done in traditional media! That winner is Fairy Cake! Fairycake recieves 60 Shiny GD for winning Grand Prize!"

    Clicky. )

:) I got 60 GD (which is about equal to $60.00). So that's pretty cool. I'll probably save it until I can tack on another $40.00 and get classic wings for life or something like that... not sure yet.

On another note: I liked this bath... it's nice. Although it made me think of Christmas. Cloves to me seems such a winter smell. But I guess it's nice for summer since i wish it was WINTER. lol I made a big batch of it cause I like it so much. I'm experimenting making bath mixes and scented epsom salts... cause they might be a neat thing to sell.

    Sugar and Spice Bath

    Ingredients:
    1 cup baking soda
    2 Tablespoons sugar
    1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    1 teaspoon ground ginger
    1 teaspoon ground cloves

Mix together all the ingredients until well blended. To use: Add
2 Tablespoons of the bath mix to a warm tub.
Store the mixture in a clean, dry container.

Maybe this is why I don't like the vast majority of people. [16 Apr 2009|02:06pm]
    [ mood | enraged ]

So today I witnessed this person run over a squirrel in a 20 mph road going probably at least 40. I saw in my rear view mirror the animal was still completely alive and trying to hobble away out of the road. Probably only had a broken leg or maybe was merely stunned/disoriented. So I turned around as quick as I could and pulled over on the side of the street. I was OBVIOUSLY trying to save the critter. I had a towel i keep in the car and i was walking towards it... People slowed to a stop to let me get to it and then his other fucking cold heartless bastard ran over it -on purpose- right in my face. I mean they were going 20... saw the squirrel and revved up and sped over it right in front of me ... nearly hitting ME in the process and sped off. Even after that the squirrel was still alive for a while. It was terrible. I never witnessed anything so completely cruel and heartless in my entire life. Maybe they thought they were doing the squirrel a service, putting it out of it's misery? I dunno. But I am sure it was saveable before the second hit. I could have rushed it to a vet on the way to school and they may have been able to save the poor thing. Maybe it's stupid cause it's just a fucking squirrel right? But I was so furious. I stood in the road cursing them for a while and then I just left and cried the whole way to my classes. The way people can be so lacking in compassion sincerely disturbs me.

I'm moving over to wordpress. I'll still be updating livejournal from time to time though since I know a lot of people on my friends list probably only use livejournal. If you use wordpress though, or even if you don't be sure to add my new blog to your favorites. :) I hope I'll have some new art to post there in a while. I am so busy with school lately I haven't had the time to scan stuff... especially this week. Ugh. Speaking of which I should be doing homework I guess. Ta!

Scanner Compatability Problem fix: Scanjet 3400c work-around for Windows Vista [07 Feb 2009|06:21pm]
    [ mood | chipper ]
    [ music | Incubus - Southern Girl ]

Just thought I would post this info that i found on my journal here in case anyone else has this scanner and is looking for a way to make it work. It might give some ideas for how to make other HP scanners work too.

I've been trying to get my scanner to work with Windows Vista ever since I got my new laptop. I had almost given up, but upon finding a new thread about this on a forum I decided to take another wack at it. It took me all day fiddling with it to just get the previous installation attempt uninstalled completely from the computer first, but once I had that done I followed these instructions and it works now!

"> > I think I might have found a solution to my problem - at least the scanner is
    > > now working in Vista.
    > > I did the following:
    > > With the scanner connected I uninstalled the scanner in Device Manager
    > > (Control Panel) including the driver. I then disconnected the scanner. Next I
    > > installed HP PrecisionScan LTX from the original CD by selecting Setup.exe
    > > from the English folder and ran it in XP SP2 compatibility mode and as
    > > Administrator. When the installation was complete I connected the scanner and
    > > a driver was installed. The next step was to find and download the file
    > > SJ651MU.EXE which is a driver update for XP. This was run in XP SP2
    > > compatibility mode and as administrator. My scanner now works.
    > >
    > > I don't know if this will work generally but it is probably worth a try."

I don't take credit for this work around. Someone else figured this out. You can view his original posts here: http://forums.techarena.in/vista-help/730259-2.htm

The only thing I did different was download the XP software and driver for the scanner at the HP website here:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=sj652en&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=61835&os=228&lang=en

And after "installing" it (after setting the file to XP compatibility in properties), I then -uninstalled the drivers (as it says in the instructions above)- in windows device manager. And i had realized it made a folder in C: called SJ652. Inside the folder are setup files. I then followed the instructions from there by going to the "english" folder in the SJ652 folder, change it to xp compatibility... etc. I am not sure if there is actually some way to make the .exe downloaded from the HP website "extract" as other workarounds I have seen suggested... or maybe you can find it as a .zip or .rar file... but the way i did it seemed to work fine. I can't promise it'll do the same for anyone else though. It's probably best if you have the scanner's original CD software.

The SJ651MU.exe they mention can be found here:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=sj651mu&lc=en&cc=us&os=228&product=61835&dlc=en

Hopefully this ends up helping someone else out!

Now that I have a scanner hooked up to my new computer, I'll be updating again with new artwork very soon. :)

Woohoo. Just got my new laptop the other day. It's a 2GB Acer and i bought a 2 GB memory stick to add to it, so make that 4GB. :D Way faster than my old dinosaur... may it rest in peace. I am now at least a little more "with the times" I guess. Although still no cell phone... yet. :p Hopefully I will find some time to get my website back up to date now... I'm enjoying the free wifi at Panera Bread right now. It's kinda a long drive but beats the shitty connection Ginger Brown's had (went there yesterday). Azle has a severe lack of the highspeed internatz.

Annnd... I am finally downloading ragnarok. lol. I've been wanting to download it -forever-. : p

Yeah... I'm still alive. Been real busy I guess. Got so much stuff I am working on... But I've been making some time for dolls (or trying). New doll I am working on... I got some pearl ex mica powders. I love them. I hope she survives baking (she's cookin now :P). This is a pic i took prior to putting her in the oven.

Camera sucks so you can barely see her. Speaking of which...

Anyone here own a Nikon D40 SLR camera (or similar)? How good is it at taking real up close pics of small things? I am thinking about getting a SLR camera... and seems Nikon D40 is the cheapest i can find (on ebay anyways)... and am wondering if it's any good for that kind of thing ...

Finally found time to finish this one... (when I was supposed to be studying =p). Her hair is this viscose stuff I got on ebay. I really kind of like it better than mohair for straight hair... but it shed a lot... which the mohair didnt seem to do. I should get a picture of her sitting on my hand for size... will later. My camera sucks, so you cant even tell she has toes, toe nails, fingernails, eyelashes... and that her eyes are greyish color. Heh... oh well. :/

It was bound to happen sooner or later... and here me being a STUPID DUMBASS... I put off backing up stuff for a quite a while. I was just thinking the other day... "Oh... maybe this weekend i should get around to backing up my artwork since i havent in like... months!" ... then wouldn't you know it... we had a power surge and I guess the surger protector thing did not work on my computer. It all went literally speaking KABLOOERY. Heard this loud pop noise and everything kinda just shut off. Wouldnt turn back on. Dad checked it out and found most important stuff FRIED. My hard drive did not survive. I LOST EVERYTHING. All the work I put into my website over the summer... and i was just about to upload all the updates... huge humongious updates that were hours upon hours of work. Now I probably wont have that all re-done until next summer at the earliest... unless i find time amongst my school scheduale to do it. Some artwork is irreplaceable. I do have some of it on CDs... but some things have been sold recently and I didnt have backups yet. STUPID. Ug. Ash apparently doesnt have the latest CD i had sent her anymore. I'm gonna see if S can send me copies of what she has... to at least save me some of the trouble of rescanning a lot of my art i dont have on my backups. ... the art isn't what worries me though. it's all tht work i put into my website gone. i worked so hard on it and I'm sure people have been waiting for a nice big update. uggggggggggggggg.......... So for now I guess i'll be re-opening my website "as - is" until I can get the updates ready for uploading again. eh. what next. car. comp... anyone know where i can sell my internal organs on the black market for tons of $$$$$$$? lmao. ):
So anyway... now i have no computer. I'm using my dad's junky comp but he's terrible about "reinstalling windows" EVERY FIVE SECONDS as a remedy to every little problem that pops up. so i can't really use this POS for anything yet til i get some kind of slave harddrive on it to store my stuff. Also he goes to shitty websites all the time and is always getting viruses. So it runs really slow and is totally unpredictable. Also I hate his keyboard... but i dont want to hook mine up on it because he might spill food or god knows what on it. Seriously... you cant trust anything to stay "nice looking and functional" around my dad. ..... This comp of his is going to drive me insane. I hope i make tons of $$ at Middlefaire this year so that i can get a new comp or have one built or something. =/

NOTE TO SELF: From now on back up all your shit at least once or TWICE a week for all eternity. Amen.

Finally getting some more prosculpt clay. :) I got a nice deal on a lot of three 1 lb blocks for about 12 dollars each. Hopefully it's in good condition and all... last one I got was slightly cured on the outside from being exposed to heat (prolly during shipping, but all the inner clay about 1/4" in the block was fine though. Apparently it starts to cure at only 80 degrees so it's best to buy it in the winter... but I'm too impatient. =p lol I think it'll be useable since the other was though... getting it from the same sellar as last time.
Also got light green, flame red, strawberry blonde, and chocolate brown tibetan lamb wool hair and some lot of 10 colors of viscose hair. Really not sure what viscose hair is exactly? But it looks like just synthetic hair so I assume it's rather like barbie hair or something. Dunno. =p Was a good deal though so I got it. Can't wait to finish off the last little doll I made... she's still sitting naked and bald on the shelf. lol

I had thought I had avoided having to buy as many books this year since I'm taking 2 art classes and two others that dont require books... but as it turns out both my art classes require some very expensive books. Ugh. =p But amazon.com has some used ones for like half the price at least. I'm kinda apprehensive about ordering used books/items from there though... last time I bought a used copy of the old black and white version of Anne of Green Gables... and the seller never sent it to me. So I waited nearly 8 weeks (ok....! so I'm extremely patient....!)... and finally launched a complaint and Amazon refunded me... and then like I swear 2 days later I got it in the mail finally. Baring in mind that at check out it said the item should arrive in 1-2 days.... and I paid for the quick shipping. Anyway I was pissed to say the least. Eh. Not Amazon's fault they have shitty sellers though. Guess I'm willing to overlook that crappy experience... I have gotten some really good deals there in the past. One or two times I actually got some books/novels for only a dollar there. Even considering they are sometimes damaged in some way... can't beat that...

In other news... I'm trying to do an acrylic painting of an angel... but it's really not going so well which is discouraging. While I'm much better at acrylics than I used to be I just can't seem to get them to do what I'm envisioning in my head. heh

This kind of pisses me off...

    http://pages.ebay.com/sell/August2008Update/Payments/

I DO sometimes get buyers who pay me with moneyorders. I feel that this will run those buyers off. I've never personally had any problems with people who pay with moneyorders. Personal checks on the other hand... that's another story and lets just say I stopped accepting those years ago (with the exception of paypal's e-checks which while kind of annoying, are ok). But moneyorders too? Ugg. Stupid ebay is sure pissing me off lately. You know... the last bill I got from them for ebay fees was like 15 dollars? Which wouldn't be so bad except that most of my auctions for the few weeks prior never sold so it's like I wasted 15 bucks for nothing. The fees are outright ridiculous compared to what it used to be. For me 15 dollars could buy a lot of things I need. bleh.

August - Psoriasis Awareness Month [06 Aug 2008|08:52pm]

    August is Psoriasis Awareness Month!

    www.psoriasis.org.com

As many of you may know, I have a chronic auto-immune disease called psoriasis. It's something I've lived with my entire life... since I was 3 years old. It's been extremely hard to deal with emotionally. It's made me shy and somewhat withdrawn from people. I feel it very hard to trust other people because in the back of my mind I always think they are judging me for my illness. It took me years to somewhat accept it and only more recently have I been able to even walk out of the house during a flare up in clothing that shows my arms or legs.

Seeing a person with a particularly bad flare up can shock people who aren't aware of what it is. As humans, of course our instinct is to avoid and shun others who may have "contagious diseases". Anyone who is in the least bit "different" may of course, in the human mind, be "contagious". I would ask these people to take a moment and think before reacting. Your reaction to a person's appearance can affect their life in a huge way. You may not think your reaction has much impact on their life, but yours as well as the hundreds of other reactions they have to deal with on a regular basis...  well it adds up to be extremely socially damaging. Also remember that you are no doctor. Do not assume you know what a person's disease is just from it's appearance.  "Oh my uncle has that too!" doesn't mean that you are correct. Assume that you have no clue because... you have no clue. =p  I've had people ask me if I had: poison ivy, measles, chicken pox, dermatitis, ringworm, scabies ... even syphilis ... once a woman asked me "OMG Do you have AIDS?????".  ... I had to restrain myself from tearing the eyeballs out of that woman. I don't think I've ever been more upset and angry at someone when it comes to myillness. Psoriasis does LOOK like a lot of other diseases but that doesn't mean it IS those diseases. Psoriasis, of any kind, is not contagious whatsoever. I personally don't mind if people ask questions about my illness, and I can't speak for anyone else with this disease, but it's the way that they ask them that makes the difference. If you are that concerned about it, just be tactful and polite when you ask questions. If a person is truely contagious, just remember that they're not likely going to be so inconsiderate as to expose you or your children to it! If they're out and about... chances are they're not contagious! So stop worrying about it! =p

In Texas we often hit the 100s in temperature in the summer. Summer is(at least for me) a miserable time for a person with psoriasis. With it being so hot, you don't want to walk outside wearing long sleeve shirts and pants, and yet if you don't cover up you get stares and questions. Concerned mothers steer their children away from you, thinking their child is going to catch your disease. One of the favorite pastimes during the summer for people in the South (and more particularly, Texas) is swimming. Swimming pools should be a refreshing, fun experience for everyone in the summer, but when you have psoriasis it can be anything but. This is the main reason I do not attend public swimming pools. When I go to Hurricane Harbor water park for instance I usually wear a t-shirt over my swim suit. If I am having a bad flare up I don't go. It shouldn't have to be that way...  Take a moment to check out these websites. Educate yourself, and others. In the process you are helping to make life a little easier for psoriasis sufferers.

    www.freetogetinthepool.org

No... I wasn't kicked out of a pool personally. Click the graphic. But you can read my own swimming at the lake horror story at the forum thread below if you're curious. It's not a very nice story though. :p

I sooooooooooooooooo want to go to this thing... too bad it's so far away (Belgium... I think?). The venue is this absolutely beautiful neo-gothic cathedral type place.

    http://users.telenet.be/gala-nocturna/pages/frameset1.htm

Why don't we have neat events like this in Texas? Maybe that's a stupid question though. I mean this IS Texas. =p Not like you can really expect much out of this place. Well... I've been to some events that were supposed to be "balls" or "masquerades" but they just never really are the real deal (and often ended up seeming more of a potluck/hoe-down than anything)... people don't dance... hardly anyone bothers to be in costume... and there is no strict dresscode regarding that because if there was no one would come because Texans are too lazy and unimaginative... unless they are me ( =p j/k... I know ... there are plenty who are imaginative but all the same I don't think most want to really put in the effort). Someday when I'm rich... I'm going to host a real masquerade ball. It's like a nerdy dream of mine. Hopefully I will live somewhere other than Texas by then. =p

Forgot to post this the other day... got a pic of my hair. The color is all off on the photo though... my hair isn't changed in color or anything. It's my normal natural red. It's the longest it's ever been. I haven't measured it lately but several months back it was about at a yard from hairline to ends. I'm aspiring to be a redheaded Crystal Gayle. lmao. :P Not really... but as long as it's not entirely impossible to manage I'm going to keep on growing it.
